2023-24 National Merit Commended Students

Congratulations to Angelina Arasavelli, Spencer Lewis, Sam Olson, Lars Oosterhof, Alejandro Pulido and Justin Shaw for being named National Merit Scholarship Commended Students.

These students stand out among approximately 34,000 high school students nationwide who have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Commended Students. This distinction is separate from the 16,000 students recognized as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists, as reported by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

High School Principal Ryan Aiello praised the students for their outstanding accomplishments, “Congratulations to Angelina, Spencer, Sam, Lars, Alejandro and Justin for their exceptional work. Commended students achieve scores in the top 3-4% of all test takers on the NMQST, making this accomplishment truly remarkable for our students.”

In the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program, over 1.5 million juniors in more than 21,000 high schools participated by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This test serves as an initial screening for program entrants. Commended Students recognition is awarded to those students whose scores place them in the top 50,000 out of the 1.5 million who took the test.

A spokesperson for NMSC commented, "These students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. We hope this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
