Eastside Catholic School is proud to announce that senior Jeremiah Burroughs has been honored by the College Board’s National African American Recognition Program (NAARP), recognizing his academic excellence and high achievement on the PSAT/NMSQT. This recognition places Jeremiah in an elite group recognized by over 1,500 colleges across the nation.
Jeremiah’s selection highlights not only his academic achievements but also his strong character and leadership. “Jeremiah is an exceptionally gifted and hardworking student, deeply respected by both his teachers and peers," said Acting High School Principal Soonja Larsen. "His determination and contributions to our school community are truly inspiring, and we are proud to celebrate his success.”
The NAARP, similar to the National Merit Scholarship program, recognizes high-achieving African American students who meet rigorous criteria, including high PSAT scores and a GPA of 3.5 or higher. This honor serves as a powerful platform for students like Jeremiah to stand out in the college admissions process and gain access to scholarships and opportunities at top-tier institutions.
Out of more than 180,000 eligible applicants nationwide, Jeremiah’s achievement is part of a larger effort by the College Board to spotlight African American, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Rural/Small Town students through its National Recognition Programs. This year, 62,000 students were recognized, showcasing their potential to shape future industries, culture and communities.
In addition to his academic accolades, Jeremiah is an emerging leader with ambitious goals. “I’m planning to double major in apparel and textile design and business,” he shared, adding that his top college choices include renowned institutions like the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and North Carolina Central University.
Reflecting on his approach to balancing academics and extracurricular activities, Jeremiah offered advice for younger students: “Focus on getting your work done in class, especially if you’re balancing school with sports. And remember, don’t stress too much.”
Eastside Catholic School takes pride in supporting students like Jeremiah, whose commitment to academic excellence, leadership and personal growth is truly inspiring. His recognition is not only a reflection of individual success but also a testament to the supportive and nurturing environment at our school.
