Our top priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff during emergencies such as power outages, snow, icy roads and other hazardous conditions. Decisions to close the school are complex, as we consider the needs of our entire community across different altitudes and areas. If inclement weather is expected, we recommend that students bring home any materials they may need.
Stay Informed with SchoolMessenger
Eastside Catholic uses SchoolMessenger to notify students, parents and guardians of emergencies, including inclement weather, power outages or lockdowns. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so by texting "subscribe" to 67587.
Where to Find School Closure Information
We aim to make closure decisions by 5:30 a.m. Here’s how you can stay updated:
- Text and Automated Phone Call: If you've subscribed to SchoolMessenger, you'll receive notifications via text and/or robocall. If you’re already registered through another school or school district, there’s no need to sign up again for Eastside Catholic messages.
- Email: If needed, additional information will be sent via email. Note that not all updates will be emailed if they can be shared via text.
- School Website: A pop-up message will appear on the homepage if delays or closures occur. We may also post if we are open while neighboring districts are closed.
Please check these resources before leaving for school, as conditions may change rapidly. If the situation worsens after a decision is made, we will issue a second notification.
Please note: If there’s no message about Eastside Catholic, the school is open and operating on a regular schedule. We only post updates when there is a change.
Remote Learning During Weather Closures
- First School Day: According to the Student and Family Handbook, the first snow or inclement weather day will be a traditional "snow day" with no assignments or classes.
- Subsequent Days: Additional snow days will transition to remote learning. Teachers will provide instructions via email or Canvas by 9 a.m. The school closure announcement will specify if remote learning is in effect.
Activity Cancellations
If campus is closed, all activities will be canceled, including:
- Before or after school activities
- Evening events (athletic, academic or meetings)
Coaches will inform student-athletes of any team schedule changes.
Power Outages During Remote Learning
If a student loses power:
- Notify teachers or a school administrator when possible.
- If disconnected from a Microsoft Teams class, attempt to rejoin when power returns.
- Teachers who experience outages will try to restart the session or send a status update.
- Use this time for asynchronous work, class assignments or tasks that don't require internet access.
How We Make Closure Decisions
We strive to balance student safety with maintaining the academic calendar. Decisions are based on transportation safety and weather risks.
Remember to consider your local conditions, which may differ from those near the school. We always encourage parents and guardians to keep their student(s) home if traveling is unsafe. If school remains open and your students stay home, they will be marked absent and remote login will not be available. Students should communicate with their teachers and use Canvas to keep up with assignments.
