Eastside Catholic School follows the guidelines provided by Washington State for all physical activity, from PE to athletic practices and events.
Per the WIAA, all schools must follow the guidelines from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) regarding air quality restrictions for outdoor activities, including class activities during the school day, athletic games or practices.
The DOH recommends using The Washington Smoke Blog as the best source of outdoor air quality information when making decisions about outdoor activities when there is wildfire smoke.
When the AQI reaches 101, it is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, including all students under the age of 18.With an AQI between 101-149, outdoor activities are limited to one hour at moderate intensity levels. If the AQI exceeds 150, practices and classes must be moved inside or canceled. There are no air quality guidelines regarding the teaching environment except for PE.
Please keep these indicators in mind during wildfire season. We monitor the AQI carefully and adjust outdoor activities and practices as needed.
Any changes will be communicated via email and SchoolMessenger as needed, to alert families of major disruptions to activities.
