In a historic night at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, two Eastside Catholic School alumni played key roles in Ohio State's victory over Notre Dame to claim the College Football Playoff National Championship. J.T. Tuimoloau '21 and Gee Scott Jr. '20 showcased their talent on the biggest stage in college football.
Tuimoloau, a senior defensive standout, had a game-changing performance. He recorded a crucial sack and forced a fumble in the second quarter, helping Ohio State gain momentum in the hard-fought contest. Tuimoloau, a two-time All-Conference player and 2023 second-team All-American, has solidified his legacy as one of the Buckeyes' top defenders.
Scott Jr., a versatile tight end who transitioned from wide receiver, proved vital on the offensive side. Late in the game, Scott Jr. secured a critical first down with a 12-yard reception, allowing Ohio State to run out the clock and secure the championship. Scott Jr.'s adaptability and consistent play throughout the season have been key to the Buckeyes' success.
Eastside Catholic commended its former players for their achievements. "It was thrilling to see J.T. and Gee lead the Buckeyes out of the tunnel at the National Championship game," said Athletic Director Stacey Stoutt. "Seeing them excel at the national level and contribute to a championship is a proud moment for our community."
The victory marks a triumphant chapter for Tuimoloau and Scott Jr., who helped lead Eastside Catholic to state championships during their high school careers. Now, they’ve added a national title to their list of accomplishments, continuing to inspire the next generation of Crusaders.
