Eastside Catholic School's Patron Saint

St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226) is the patron saint of Eastside Catholic School. Known for his deep humility, compassion and love for all of God’s creation, he dedicated his life to serving the poor, promoting peace and living simply in harmony with nature. Founder of the Franciscan Order, St. Francis inspired generations with his message of faith, service and stewardship.

The statue was gifted to the school by the Class of 2013, serving as a symbol of peace and reverence on our campus. The surrounding garden was thoughtfully designed and constructed by Joe Mehan '15, creating a quiet space for reflection and prayer.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

The Virgin Mary and baby Jesus

Gifted to the school by the Class of 2015 and EC friends and family. Mary, the Church’s first disciple, symbolizes the trust parents place in us. She holds her child in a blanket, representing both Christ’s birth and His crucifixion—a reminder of His life and sacrifice.

Our Lord Jesus Christ

This statue was originally ordered by a Seattle bookstore for a customer who ultimately decided not to purchase it. For years, it remained in storage, awaiting a new home. The EC Boosters bought the statue and donated it to the school. Now, Christ stands at the heart of our campus, extending His welcome to all who enter.

St. Joseph Memorial Garden

The original statue of Mary was a gift from the Brendan family in memory of their son. After it was damaged before our campus move, we promised to replace it. With the family's blessing, this location was chosen. Sean Fite '14 designed and built the surrounding garden, hand-carrying materials to complete the space.

Outdoor Stations of the Cross

This meaningful addition to our campus was completed as an Eagle Scout project by Jack Riley '16. The Stations offer a quiet space for reflection and prayer, inviting all to walk with Christ through His Passion.

The Eastside Catholic Cross

The 99-foot cedar cross on the exterior of the Chapel was crafted from two trees once rooted on campus. Blessed with a sprig from our former Newport campus, it connects our past to our future—intentionally placed at the heart of the school to reflect our enduring spirit.

Senior Pilgrimage Cross

Since 1982, this Cross has been carried by every senior attending Pilgrimage—over 2,500 alumni and counting. Adorned with medallions from each year's retreat, it symbolizes unity and legacy. Recognized by alumni across generations, the cross stands as a powerful emblem of shared experience and enduring connection.
