Dan was introduced to wrestling in 1985 as a third grader in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Growing up in a Marine Corps household, he spent his middle school years in Massachusetts and went to high school in Oahu. Wrestling competitively for the next ten years brought an undefeated high school senior season, Hawaii State Championship, and an eventual scholarship to wrestle for Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. After an extended break from the mat, he returned to the sport in 2006 as an assistant coach at Eastlake High School. He remained there for three consecutive seasons and then returned for another after a two-year hiatus. Dan was the head coach at Juanita High School from 2015-2018. He was also the head coach at Finn Hill Middle School in 2016. In 2018, Juanita won the first KingCo title in 16 years and qualified four wrestlers for state. His 170 placed 8th, and his heavyweight was a state champion. For the 2018-19 season, he moved to Bellevue to help build the program with a previous assistant coach from Juanita. He picked up the reigns at EC in 2019 and will be starting his fourth season this year. Needless to say, wrestling is in his blood.
