AP Capstone Diploma Program

Eastside Catholic is proud to be one of approximately 2,000 schools (>5%) in the U.S. that offers the AP Capstone Diploma Program an advanced academic pathway that prepares students for college-level inquiry and independent research.

The AP Capstone program centers on two yearlong courses:

  • AP Seminar - Students explore real-world issues through research, group projects, discussions and presentations. Available to students in grades 10 or 11.

  • AP Research - Students design and complete an independent, college-level research project under faculty mentorship. Available to students in grades 11 or 12 (after completing AP Seminar).

Unlike traditional AP courses that culminate in a single end-of-year exam, AP Seminar and AP Research use project-based assessments. Students demonstrate mastery through group work, presentations and individual essays completed throughout the year.

These courses are interdisciplinary, allowing students to pursue topics that genuinely interest them. Throughout the program, students are evaluated on their critical thinking, research design, collaboration, time management and communication skills.
