Eastside Catholic is pleased to announce that Frances Carhart has been hired as the Director of Student Services, effective July 1, 2019.
Most recently, Carhart has been the dean of academic services and the director of college advising at The Bear Creek School in Redmond. She also has worked as an educational consultant for her own company focused on academic coaching and determining college fit for high school students. Additional work experience includes product management at Microsoft. Carhart has more than five years of experience as an educator teaching both middle school and high school for the Issaquah and Kent public school systems. She earned a master’s in education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College. Currently, she is working toward a certificate in school management and leadership in a partnership between the Harvard Business School and the Harvard School of Education.
She says what motivates her is, “striving to make quality schools — schools where students feel known by their teachers and communities, where joy for learning permeates the hallways and where students can safely engage in all conversations. It’s this hope and ideal that drew me away from Microsoft two decades ago and still what motivates me today. I’m excited to meet EC families and hear how we can best support each student’s academic journey.”
Carhart also stated, “Helping students with a college decision — finding the best fit — is even more important today when the societal pressure to attend a name-brand college is prevalent. I truly appreciate helping young people develop the skills that they will use throughout their lives that include knowing how to research before an important decision, learning how to confidently talk about their accomplishments and interests, and then making the best decision with the information in front of them.”
"We are thrilled to have Frances join our EC family,” said High School Principal Barbara Swann. “She is an accomplished educator, mentor and leader. We are confident she that will do an excellent job of supporting our students, faculty and counseling team in our continued efforts to offer the most personalized educational experience possible, helping all students to become the best versions of themselves.”
Carhart is excited to work with a team of energetic and passionate educators at EC. She said, “What impressed me with EC is a contagious enthusiasm for students, a genuine commitment to self-assessment and the growth mindset to reach lofty goals.”
