Eastside Catholic is pleased to announce the appointment of Gil Picciotto as the next president of Eastside Catholic School. Mr. Picciotto will be joining Eastside Catholic from Washington State University, where he was most recently the acting CEO for the Washington State University Foundation. He will officially begin in his role on April 16.
“With over 20 years of higher education administrative and development experience and an extensive background in management and leadership, we believe Mr. Picciotto will drive our Mission, exemplify the Catholic identity of our school, strengthen our tradition of excellence and innovate and grow our school in the coming years,” said Eastside Catholic Board of Trustees Chair Mauricio Uribe. “His extensive background in strategic management and development will be invaluable as we implement our Strategic Plan.”
During 10 years at WSU, Mr. Picciotto was also part of the administrative team that led the One Billion Dollar Comprehensive Campaign for WSU, established the Paul Allen School for Global Animal Health and formed the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, among other accomplishments. Prior to WSU, he spent 11 years at his alma mater, the University of California, Santa Barbara, in a variety of administrative roles.
“Today is a very humbling day for me,” Mr. Picciotto said. “I want to thank the Board of Trustees and the entire EC community for entrusting me with the role of President. I came here because I know that EC has a life-changing effect on our students and through them, our community at large. The Eastside Catholic faculty and staff provide a world class curriculum built around meaningful content that evokes student academic interests and spiritual growth which fosters a passion to learn and serve. I am excited to be a part of this vibrant and spirited community. Go Crusaders!”
Mr. Picciotto holds a master's degree in management and leadership from Western Governors University and an undergraduate degree in law and society from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Mr. Picciotto’s appointment follows an extensive and thorough search process by an EC Search Committee over the past six months with input from the Seattle Archdiocese. The search committee was comprised of board members, faculty, staff and parent group representatives. EC students also had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Picciotto during the search process.
“It was very rewarding, not only for the students to be involved at an administrative level, but for the administration to hear the students’ voice and perspective,” said EC senior Jarred Flowers. “Mr. Picciotto is a charismatic, personable leader who, the students strongly believe, embodies our Touchstones.”
Mr. Picciotto will be working closely with Interim President Tom Lord and the EC Board of Trustees through the remainder of the 2017-18 school year to ensure a seamless transition.
