Congratulations to seniors Natalie Ellis, Paul Snyder and Michael Viscardi for being named National Merit Scholarship Commended Students. These students were among approximately 34,000 high school students nationally who were recognized as National Merit Commended Students, in addition to the 16,000 who were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
Acting High School Principal Ryan Aiello praised the students for their accomplishments, “It is my distinct honor and privilege to congratulate Natalie, Paul and Michael and celebrate their remarkable accomplishment. They are among a select group of outstanding students nationwide to earn this award, and their commitment and passion to their studies is inspiring."
Of the three students who were recognized, Natalie Ellis began her Eastside Catholic academic journey in middle school.
Natalie and Paul provided the following advice to underclassmen.
- Natalie Ellis: “Be confident in your own ability, but still work to improve. Hard work pays off!”
- Paul Snyder: “Putting effort into you work is important. Keep trying to improve and learn new things in all aspects of life.”
Over 1.5 million juniors in more than 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students out of the 1.5 million who took the test.
