Eastside Catholic girls lacrosse captured the State Championship with an overtime victory over Mercer Island High School, capping an undefeated season with a dramatic finish in a tightly contested title game.

Trailing by a goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation, the Crusaders found themselves in a difficult position as Mercer Island controlled possession. After forcing a turnover, the Crusaders quickly moved the ball upfield, where senior Regan Walters scored the equalizer with fewer than eight seconds remaining to send the game into sudden-death overtime.

Mercer Island won the opening draw in overtime and created an early scoring opportunity, but junior goalkeeper Natalie Stevens came up with a crucial save to keep the game tied. The Crusaders transitioned the ball downfield and found Walters again, who delivered the game-winning goal to clinch the state title.

“With under a minute left in regulation, this team could have folded, but quitting was never an option," Executive Director of Athletics Jeff Feller said. "They stayed composed, believed in each other, and came through with the game-tying goal when it mattered most. In overtime, their resilience and grit took over, and they finished the job as State Champions. This season was about so much more than wins and losses. It was about heart, toughness, and a group that never stopped fighting for each other."

The championship marks girls lacrosse’s first state title since 2017 and caps an unforgettable undefeated season and undefeated run for the Crusaders, who delivered when it mattered most.
