Champions in the Classroom: Eastside Catholic Tennis Wins Academic State Title

Eastside Catholic tennis has been named the 2026 WIAA 3A Academic State Champion, earning the highest cumulative team GPA among all 3A tennis programs in Washington.

With cumulative team GPAs of 3.94 and 3.92, respectively, the girls and boys tennis teams earned the highest academic honor awarded by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). The recognition celebrates teams that demonstrate exceptional achievement in the classroom while competing at a high level in athletics.

The Academic State Championship is awarded annually by the WIAA to the team in each classification and sport with the highest cumulative grade point average.

“The thing I admire most about our players is they all take a ton of AP classes, some play instruments, some compete in club sports outside of EC and they all play EC tennis,” Head Coach Trista Campbell said.

The honor marks the first Academic State Championship in program history for EC tennis and reflects the strong culture of academic excellence across Crusader athletics.

“You constantly hear our coaches talk about the importance of being a student first,” Campbell said. “This award recognizes the hard work and balance it takes to be a high-performing student and Eastside Catholic athlete. These young men and women are the perfect example of what a student-athlete can be.”
