Eastside Catholic Teammates, Lifelong Friends to Sign Together on National Signing Day

Eastside Catholic School proudly celebrates seniors Ryan Long and Tristan Weigum, who signed on National Signing Day, February 4, to begin their collegiate baseball journeys, continuing a shared path that began when they first took the field together at age eight.

The moment marks a fitting next chapter for longtime teammates and close friends whose bond has grown through years of playing side by side.

Both members of Eastside Catholic’s varsity baseball program, Long and Weigum will graduate this June as part of the Class of 2026. Their journey from youth baseball to high school varsity has been defined by consistency, dedication and a deep bond that shows most clearly on the field—particularly when Long is behind the plate catching for Weigum on the mound, according to Varsity Head Coach Kyle Larsen.

Long and Weigum’s connection at Eastside Catholic began well before high school, as both joined the EC community in middle school in 2021. Those formative years laid the foundation for their growth as student-athletes, making their athletic achievements a reflection of a shared journey built over time.

Long, rated among the top catchers in Washington’s Class of 2026, is known for his leadership, game-management and strength on both sides of the ball. He will continue his academic and athletic career next fall at Claremont McKenna College in California.

“Growing up playing with Tristan has meant a lot to me, and now getting to sign and play baseball at the next level with him makes it even more special,” said Long. “I’m super excited for this season and can’t wait to lead the Crusaders on another run for state this year.”

Weigum, one of the state’s top pitchers in Washington’s Class of 2026, has earned recognition for poise, competitiveness and command. He will head east to pitch for University of Rochester in New York while pursuing his college studies.

“Watching Ryan catch for Tristan, you can see years of trust, communication, and friendship at work,” said Kyle Larsen. “Their connection goes beyond baseball, and it’s special to see them reach this moment together.”

The joint signing highlights not only individual achievements, but also the power of long-standing relationships, teamwork and shared goals. From childhood teammates to high school standouts—and now future collegiate athletes—Long and Weigum’s story reflects a deep commitment to excellence on and off the field.

“Ryan and Tristan represent what it means to be student-athletes who show up every day and put in the work,” said Executive Athletic Director Jeff Feller. “We’re proud of them and can’t wait to watch their baseball journeys continue at the college level.”
