Together Along the Way

I'm not someone who typically gives speeches, so I'll keep this short. I want to take this opportunity to thank the people who helped me get here today.

First, I want to thank my parents.

Thank you for being patient, for supporting me even when I probably made things more stressful than they needed to be, and for always showing up no matter the problem. You have seen me grow, been there through every high and low, and guided me to become the person I am today. I definitely don't say it enough, but I truly appreciate everything you've done for me.

Second, I want to thank my family from Peru and Spain. Your unconditional love and encouragement from miles away have made me stronger and more resilient. Thank you for being people I can always look up to. Los amo a todos, gracias. ("I love you all. Thank you.")

I also want to thank my teachers because every student knows that a great teacher makes all the difference.

Ms. Petersen, thank you for your genuine support over these past three years. Your class has been a constant for me throughout high school. Although it wasn't easy, I always knew what was expected of me, and you pushed me to do my very best. I'm also grateful for the patience and understanding you showed, even as we worked through the most challenging units.

Mr. Fletcher, thank you for your understanding, help and kindness. I didn't think it was possible, but you made chemistry a class I looked forward to. You were always willing to answer students' questions and spent extra time helping us with homework before and after class.

Ms. Deardorff, I only had your class for one year, but it has stayed with me long after it ended. Your positive attitude each day, along with the care you showed every student, made me feel immediately welcome. You always took the time to listen, whether I was having a good day or a bad one. Thank you for being a teacher I knew I could always talk to.

Ms. O'Donnell, thank you for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself, for creating a classroom where I always felt welcome, even after I was no longer your student, and for helping me continue practicing my French.

Finally, thank you to Dr. Bob, Sr. Granda, Dr. Dolive, Mr. Morrisroe and all of my teachers throughout the years. Your patience, understanding and support over the past four years have helped me become the person I am today.
