The Moments That Matter

Good evening, parents, families, faculty and, most importantly, the Class of 2026. My name is Tristan Weigum, and I am honored to be one of your salutatorians.

First, I would like to thank my parents and brother, all my coaches and teammates, my teachers, and all the friends I've made during my time here at Eastside Catholic.

The first day I came to Eastside Catholic in eighth grade, I only knew a couple of my classmates, but it didn't take long before some familiar faces turned into my people. These people formed a community that supported each other, challenged each other and helped each other grow.

I personally think this is why this moment is special for us. It's not the individual achievements each one of us has achieved but the experiences we have shared together during our time here. As we begin our next chapter, it still hasn't hit me that soon I will be heading across the country, away from these friends I have grown up with and made endless memories with.

But if there is one thing this community has taught me, it is to appreciate and enjoy the people around you while you have them. Time moves much faster than you think, and I know it may sound cliché, but it's true. These moments that feel ordinary now are the ones you'll look back on the most.

To the Class of 2026, wherever life takes us next, don't take these moments for granted. Be present. Take care of the people around you, and cherish and enjoy the time you share with them because these moments don't last forever, and they are the moments that really matter.
