#NOFA — No One Fights Alone

We are very excited to host the 11^th Annual No One Fights Alone Cancer Awareness volleyball game on September 29 versus Holy Names. 

The Backstory
In 2012, our head volleyball coach was a young woman named Angie Mason-Smith (formerly McKinnell). She was also a college student at that time, earning her master’s degree—all while battling cancer—for the fourth time.

Angie and I were talking one afternoon, and I asked her if she would share her story with our students. Her strength and positive attitude inspired me, and I knew our students would be inspired too. From that conversation, the No One Fights Alone (NOFA) event was born. We held a NOFA assembly that year where each of the players proudly wore their NOFA shirts - each shirt was a different color, representing the type of cancer the players wished to fight for. 

At that first game and in subsequent years, our community and students turned out in impressive numbers in support of the #NOFA - No One Fights Alone game.

Since that day in 2012, we have hosted a No One Fights Alone Cancer Awareness game in September each year.

It was important to Angie that this event was used to raise awareness for ALL types of cancer awareness.

The EC volleyball community has been deeply affected by cancer in past years. In the summer of 2013, while Angie was still battling cancer, one of our players was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. We had multiple parents fighting their own fights against cancer as well. I am happy to say all these individuals are going strong today and winning their battle against this horrible disease.

Since 2012, many of our teams and clubs have supported NOFA in a variety of ways and we are excited to see this event grow every year! 

We are proud of our volleyball community for starting this amazing EC tradition, for supporting such a worthy cause and supporting those experiencing cancer in their or their families' lives.
