At Eastside Catholic, being a member of National Honor Society (NHS) is more than academic recognition; it’s a vibrant community of student leaders dedicated to the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Membership is selective and highly respected. Students must be sophomores, juniors or seniors, maintain a minimum 3.7 cumulative GPA, demonstrate integrity and leadership and commit to serving others. Once inducted, members take on an important role within the EC community. They lead service initiatives, represent the school at events and serve as role models across campus. They strive not only for personal excellence but also lift others up along the way.

Tutoring as an Expression of Service

One of the most visible ways NHS members live out their commitment to service is through peer tutoring, offered three afternoons each week—Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 3-4 p.m. in the Commons. The program offers free, drop-in tutoring and is open to all EC students in grades 6-12. NHS members offer academic support in a wide range of subject areas, including math, science, English and world languages. For many middle school students, working with an older peer builds confidence, strengthens foundational skills and makes the transition to rigorous coursework feel achievable and supported. High school students receive targeted help in all classes, including  AP courses—building habits that they carry into college.

For NHS tutors, the experience is transformative.

“As president, I have been involved in many types of service. Tutoring has been a great reminder that anyone's abilities can be utilized to positively impact our community. It teaches us compassion and the importance of humility. By choosing to serve, we choose to acknowledge the needs around us and to step forward with kindness and purpose. NHS is a community where every action, big or small, can inspire lasting change.” —Sara M. ’26

“NHS is a fantastic community that allows people who are passionate about learning to find a group of like-minded individuals. We push each other to excel in classes by studying together. My favorite part of NHS is having a trusted group I can go to when I need help on topics. We are able to work through challenges together and help each other learn and grow.” —Kaitlin O. ’26 “Tutoring for NHS is incredibly fulfilling because it gives me the opportunity to lend a helping hand to fellow students, and use my academic abilities for the benefit of others.” —Elliot W. ’26

“Participation in NHS is an amazing opportunity for students at EC to demonstrate their leadership, serve communities and support other students academically. My favorite part of NHS is coming together to do service drives for those in less fortunate situations.” —Thomas N. ’26 National Honor Society at Eastside Catholic is more than an honor—it is a commitment to serve, support and inspire. Through leadership, academic dedication and peer-to-peer collaboration, NHS members help make EC a place where every student can grow and thrive
