Eastside Catholic Drama Department Back in "Play"

By Drama Teacher Holly Whiting

In the Spring of 2020, we were two weeks away from launching our production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's, Cinderella. The talented cast had been rehearsing, learned their lines and blocking, and were ready to talk, sing and dance into all our hearts. Beautiful unique costumes had been built by a professional costumer. Lighting design had been done by a top lighting designer. Seattle Opera had agreed to lend us world-class technical equipment from their stage, and a super-talented Apple graphic designer had generated unique multimedia pieces to dazzle the eye.

All was in ready to create a fantastic, and delightful, family-musical-theater experience for the Eastside Catholic student body and community.

Then a global pandemic stepped in and pulled down the curtain–but the passion and love of theater arts, and our desire to perform were never extinguished from our hearts.

Step ahead to May 2021. Under the "big top" tent erected on the campus for outside lunches, the EC Drama team put on a production of two shows: one recorded, Bad Auditions on Camera, and one live, 13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview. While a masked audience laughed, cheered and clapped, a game troupe of EC performers braved the chilly weather to keep the spirt of theater alive.

Which brings us to today—we are once again performing indoors in the Chapel (under strict COVID-19 protocols) for a live audience with custom costumes, fun set pieces and great lighting. We will present two-engaging plays: 9 Worst Breakups of All Time and Take Five, which will feature a talented cast who are ready to entertain everyone with EC theater craft once again!

Join the EC Theater Department November 17 - 20 to share in the magic that is only found in watching live theater. We are happy to be back on stage!
