College-Prep Curriculum: Expectations and Insights

By the Eastside Catholic School College Counseling Team | Edited by the Eastside Catholic School Marketing and Communications Staff

At Eastside Catholic School, college preparation doesn’t begin in junior or senior year—it’s woven into every step of a student’s journey from middle school through graduation. Our college prep curriculum emphasizes academic excellence, personal growth and faith-based values, helping students develop the habits, confidence and curiosity they need to thrive in college and life.

Laying the Foundation: Middle School Academics

At Eastside Catholic, college readiness begins in middle school. From sixth grade on, students strengthen essential skills through project-based learning, organization strategies and time management tools. They are encouraged to explore new challenges, work collaboratively and build confidence in their academic abilities. By the time they reach high school, students have established a strong foundation of study habits, critical thinking and independence that will best serve them in college and beyond.

Building Confidence and Habits: Ninth Grade

The transition into high school marks an important phase in our college-prep program. Ninth graders begin working with their college counselors to explore their strengths, values and interests through guided reflection and assessments. Students are encouraged to join clubs, participate in co-curricular activities and start documenting achievements and involvement—an invaluable step toward future college applications. These experiences will help students develop self-awareness and build a sense of purpose as they grow academically and socially.

Exploration and Growth: Tenth Grade

Sophomore year, students take their self-discovery a step further through assessments such as PrinciplesYou, which help identify key personality traits and leadership strengths. With their counselor’s guidance, students will make thoughtful course selections, explore new extracurricular opportunities and plan summer experiences such as internships, community service or enrichment programs. This year is all about exploring possibilities and connecting skills and interests to potential academic and career paths.

Taking the Lead: Eleventh Grade

Junior year is a transformative time in the college preparation process. Students embrace rigorous coursework—including Honors, AP and College in the High School classes—to demonstrate college-level readiness. They will also begin researching colleges that match their goals academically, socially and financially.

Families are invited to our College Planning Night, College Exploration and Case Studies events to learn more about the admissions process and how to support their student’s journey. Students also participate in a College Essay Workshop in the spring to begin crafting essays that reflect their authentic voice and experiences.

Putting It All Together: Senior Year

Senior year is the culmination of years of preparation. Students work closely with their college counselors to create balanced college lists, finalize essays and complete applications that tell their unique story. Families are again supported through our College Planning Night, designed to guide them through decision-making and next steps.

By graduation, Eastside Catholic students are not only ready for college—they’re equipped with resilience, confidence and a strong sense of purpose rooted in faith and personal growth.

A Purposeful Journey of College Readiness

At Eastside Catholic School, every step of our college-prep curriculum is made with intention. Through middle school academics, high school rigor and personalized college counseling, students gain the skills, knowledge and character needed to succeed in higher education and beyond.

Our goal is simple yet profound: to prepare each student to lead a life of purpose, confidence and compassion, ready to make a difference in the world.
