Class of 2030 Eighth Grade Promotion: Carrying the Lessons Forward

As I stand here today, it’s impossible to believe how much we’ve changed since the first day we walked into middle school. Back then, most of us were shorter, quieter and unsure of what we were getting ourselves into. Middle school has a way of challenging you and sometimes confusing you — but it also has a way of helping you discover who you’re becoming.

These past few years weren’t just about learning equations, writing essays or memorizing historical dates. They were about learning how to work with people who think differently than we do. They were about figuring out how to keep going when things got hard, whether it was a tough assignment or a moment when we doubted ourselves. It was the boring, annoying lessons that shaped us into smarter and better beings. Middle school wasn’t perfect, but that’s why it mattered.

Middle school has a way of challenging you and sometimes confusing you — but it also has a way of helping you discover who you’re becoming.

We built so many memories and experiences that will stick with us for a long time. The moments of laughter in the hallways, inside jokes with friends, school events that brought us together and even the times we got into trouble with our friends. Today is a turning point. Middle school changed us, so as we move forward, let’s carry the lessons, the friendships and the resilience we’ve built here. We’re stepping into high school with more confidence, more experience and a better understanding of who we are.

Lastly, thank you to the teachers, staff, my friends, especially my family and everyone who made my middle school experience possible. We will continue to use your lessons, stories and lectures throughout high school and in the years beyond.
